I want to preface this post with the fact that I have been searching for way to customize my profile color this since they initially launched this feature a few months back but…
It has notoriously ONLY been available for people who have hundreds of paying subscribers…
I am obsessed with color psychology, and if you take cultivating top tier digital spaces + authentic self-expression seriously then, you may like it here welcome aboard.
You’ve probably seen a handful of these.
There has been no official update about the sneaky release of this ability being given to non-bestsellers.
Even if you ask substack’s official support chat bot it will tell you—
this feature is not for you, you peasant non-bestseller
On this platform where self-expression is everything, the custom branding feels like a MUST to me, to visually distinguish yourself from the sea of orange/gray.
After searching multiple dozens of profiles. I found a handful of outliers that weren’t bestsellers, yet they still had the profile color so I found hope.
What they all had in common was that they had these new flower badges that you now get when you grab a paid subscription to ANYONE’s publication.
Yes… pay to play sucks but if there is that one person you’ve been wanting to show your appreciation to for their writing this is a great opportunity to do so.
For me that would have been Matt Giaro but my mans is ADAMANT about not monetizing on substack and will die on that hill so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
